Episode 5 is the fifth episode of the first season of the Netflix original mythological dark-comedy KAOS. It was released on August 29, 2024.

Synopsis[]

The Furies offer Ariadne a glimpse into her family's past, while an increasingly paranoid Zeus overhears a secret from his wife in the present.

Plot[]

Chained to a wall, Prometheus explains that Zeus punished him for standing up to him and telling Zeus that he became everything he hated. Prior to his imprisonment, Prometheus is visited by Atropos of the Fates. She informed him that Zeus was coming after him and that if he wanted to stop Zeus, he needed to listen to Atropos, who asked who was the one person in the world that would do anything Prometheus asked without question. He revealed that person was Charon, to which Atropos replied that Prometheus must kill him. Additionally, he needed to gain Zeus' trust by submitting to his punishment and accepting his fate. If he didn't, Zeus would never be defeated.

The Furies have isolate Ari in a hotel, where she explains that she didn't mean to kill her brother and that she has not gone unpunished. However, to Ari's surprise, the Furies have not come to punish her. Instead, they've come to show her the truth, which is that her father killed Glaucus due to his prophecy which states "Your end begins in the marital bed. The first child to draw breath will kill you dead." Ari refuses to accept this as the truth, even as she watches Minos instructs Daedalus to get rid of Glaucus. Additionally, she learns that Daedalus is a prisoner, though she is doubtful that what they show her is true and leaves abruptly, even as they try to explain that the Gods are the source of her pain.

Ari returns to the palace, where she begins to question everything her father's ever said to her, but rather than approach him with her suspicions, she confronts Daedalus, initially asking if he's a prisoner and what he did. Daedalus replies that he didn't do anything, and that her father wanted to ensure that he didn't find work elsewhere. She then asks if he killed her brother at her father's orders. To Ari's surprise, Daedalus reveals that Glaucus is not dead, rather he's the Minotaur in the dungeon.

While Hera continues her affair with Poseidon, Zeus and Dionysus watch the news as the earth is plagued with various natural disasters. Zeus then enters Hera's bathroom, where she keeps the tongues and prayers of her worshipers. There, he overhears Hera having sex with another man. In search of the truth, he takes one of her tacitas and tortures her for answers, but the tacita refuses to betray Hera.

Dionysus visits his mother within Hera's bee colony. He's unsure if it's actually her, but he confides in the nearest bee that he doesn't want to hurt people.

Hera returns to find that Zeus has killed one of her tacitas. When she confronts Zeus, he reveals that he listened to her tongues, and he knows that she's been lying to him. Hera insists that she isn't cheating on Zeus and that he must've misheard. She asks him to show her exactly which tongue in which drawer he heard her, but he is unable to find it again, at which point she assures him that she's not plotting against him. After calming Zeus and leaving him in bed sleep, Hera mourns the death of her tacita.

Back in the Underworld, Riddy and Caeneus continue their search for Nax whilst being surrounded by the hollow shells of souls that they initially believed to have gone through the Frame and renewed. Nax calls out for help, but instead of Riddy and Caeneus, he is found by Hades, who manually drains Nax of his soul, which causes Riddy great pain, forcing her and Caeneus to return to the surface, where they are spotted by Medusa.
