Episode 6 is the sixth episode of the first season of the Netflix original mythological dark-comedy KAOS. It was released on August 29, 2024.
Synopsis[]
Orpheus draws closer to Riddy — but she's already become close to somebody else. Hades feels the full force of Zeus' wrath at a gathering of the gods.
Plot[]
Klara exits the Cave distraught after learning of Anatole's death. Tears run down her face as she collapses to the ground. At that moment, Dionysus arrives to ask about their progress, at which point, she slaps him. He then heads inside, where he learns that Orpheus has successfully crossed the Styx. Meanwhile, Charon escorts Orpheus to a field, where he must undergo his final test alone in the wilderness.
Unable to sleep after seeing what Hades did to Astyanax, Riddy stops by Caeneus' to discuss what they saw. She reveals that her mother became a tacita when she was five years old — cut out her tongue and gave herself to Hera. Riddy didn't accept it and used to curse them every night. Perhaps that's why she felt so much pain in the Nothing. It's for people who disown the Gods, she presumes. However, Caeneus would beg to differ, as he would've been in pain too for having changed and dishonored the Gods.
When boys come of age, they have to leave the Amazon compound and if they ever return, they are executed. Caeneus, known then as Caenis, best friend had just been sent away, and he was the only person that knew how Caeneus felt. However, Leos returned and told Caeneus that he wanted to come home, but he was a man now and wasn't allowed. Caeneus gave Leos a hat to shield him from the sun and told him to go. Before leaving, he instructed Caeneus not to tell anyone his secret if he sought to stay at the compound. Later that day, Caeneus exited his trailer to find that Leos had been killed for returning. That night, Myrina, Caeneus' mother, revealed that she knew Caeneus was a boy, stating that the form didn't fit the content and that Caeneus needed to leave. Myrina had a friend in Krete who would help him. Myrina's prophecy foretold that Caeneus would be a boy, so when he was born a girl, she was relieved and thought there'd been a mistake. Myrina later Betrayed Caeneus in favor of the Gods, leading to his disdain for them, a feeling he and Riddy share. The two of them then proceed to kiss.
Persephone has convinced Hades to tell Zeus the truth, as everything could break and fall apart. The Nothing was never meant to take that many souls, which is why the Frame glitched.
Zeus has another sit down with Prometheus to discuss his next move. He has realized that mortals are not the problem and has decided to destroy the Fates, who are the source of his prophecy. But Prometheus warns Zeus that he could destroy the entire world, including himself. Prometheus advises Zeus against allowing his prophecy to control him, citing President Minos as an example of a mortal who lives in direct defiance of his prophecy. However, Zeus claims he's only delayed his fate because Glaucus could escape and kill Minos at any time. This leads Zeus to suggest that Minos kill his son and deny his prophecy. Because if a minor mortal can do it, then it is no threat to Zeus.
Riddy and Caeneus discover that they share the same prophecy. Riddy recalls meeting Cassandra, who knew she was going to die on the day of her death. She believes her mom knew as well. Riddy now suspects that there is no Renewal and that everyone who goes through the Frame ends up in the Nothing.
Hades and Persephone reveal to Zeus, Poseidon, and Hera that the Frame is overwhelmed with souls and becoming unstable. Zeus refuses to accept responsibility for his actions and accuses Hades of attempting to destroy him. Enraged, he shocks Hades with lightning, nearly killing him.
Orpheus struggles to make his way through the scorching desert. He begins to hallucinate and finds himself eating sand, after having mistaken it for water.
Poseidon and Hera instruct Minos to kills his son. He pleads with them to not force him, but should he refuse or fail, they threaten to take Ari and torture her.
Orpheus crosses paths with a man near a watercooler. He offers Orpheus a drink, but if he drinks the water, he won't be able to get his wife back. Despite being dehydrated and near death, Orpheus decides against taking the water, which was the final test. And with that, a door appears that leads him to Riddy,
After discovering that Orpheus passed every test and reunited with Riddy, Dionysus seeks out his uncle for advice, only to discover that Poseidon has been having an affair with Hera.
Medusa reveals to Charon that the man with the mark has arrived in Asphodel, meaning Prometheus was telling the truths
