Hades is Zeus' middle brother as well as the god of death and the Underworld, who is secretly losing his grip on his dark dominion, as there is a backlog of dead waiting to be processed, and they are growing restless.

Biography[]

The collapse of the Underworld[]

After being instructed by Zeus to employ more divers for the Underworld, Hades and Persephone discuss how exactly a soul managed to escape. Admittedly, Hades is at fault for having sat back and allowing things to simply happen. Rather than go to Zeus as Persephone would prefer, Hades insists on handling it himself.[1] Which he does when he finds Astyanax in the Nothing and manually siphons his soul.[2]

Persephone has convinced Hades to tell Zeus the truth, as everything could break and fall apart. The Nothing was never meant to take that many souls, which is why the Frame glitched. They reveal that the Frame is overwhelmed with souls and becoming unstable. Zeus refuses to accept responsibility for his actions and accuses Hades of attempting to destroy him. Enraged, he shocks Hades with lightning, nearly killing him.[3]

Meeting Orpheus[]

Hades and Persephone meet Orpheus, the first living mortal to make their way to the Underworld. He's come to rescue Riddy, but neither Orpheus nor Riddy can return to the land of the living, much to Persephone and Medusa's disappointment. Orpheus pleads with Hades but he doesn't budge. Persephone expresses her disapproval with Hades decision. Sending a dead person back from the Underworld was their chance to make a statement of intent, one that Zeus could not ignore. Hades argues that some things have to remain sacred and that they don't bring the dead back to life. Moving on to finding a solution to their actual problem regarding the Frame and the Nothing. Hades believes they can find a way to restore and renew some of the souls.[4]

Hades enters the Nothing and attempts to manually restore Nax's soul but is unsuccessful in doing so. However, he then discovers that Caeneus can do exactly that.[5]
