Medusa is a snake-haired bureaucrat in charge of Riverbank Management at the Lethe, within the Underworld, who has been dead for a long time.
Biography[]
Promoting Caeneus[]
Medusa calls Caeneus and Prue into her office and promotes them to divers at Hades' behest, though Caeneus would rather remain a handler as he awaits his mother.[1]
After watching Caeneus and Riddy come out of the Nothing, Medusa reveals to Charon that the man with the mark has arrived in Asphodel, meaning Prometheus was telling the truths.[2][3]
Rebelling against the Gods[]
Before escorting Orpheus to see Hades, Medusa reveals to Riddy that they've been waiting for her. The rebels, like herself, see the gods for what they are, and they believe Riddy may be the key to stopping them, given her and Caeneus' shared prophecy. Hades congratulates him on successfully making his way through the Underworld. That said, neither Orpheus nor Riddy can return to the land of the living, much to Persephone and Medusa's disappointment. Orpheus pleads with Hades but he doesn't budge, however, Persephone goes behind his back and helps get them back to earth.[4]
Hades tells Medusa about his plan to restore the Underworld, but he needs her to help Persephone in his absence. Caeneus asks Medusa how long she's known about the Nothing and says that they should alert the public, but Medusa instructs him against doing so, explaining that he doesn't understand the big picture and that Riddy was the important one. She offers to send him back to his dog at the docks but he refuses. And so she advises him to keep his head down and not interfere.[5]
