Eurydice is married to world-famous musician Orpheus. While her luxurious life seems enviable from the outside, Riddy is deeply unhappy and has no idea of her cosmic significance.
Biography[]
Last day on earth[]
Riddy is pondering how unhappy she is with her life. While on a grocery run, she crosses path with a strange woman who tries to warn her that the gods are stealing human souls and prophecizes that Riddy will leave her husband Orpheus before the day ends. That night, Riddy has decided to leave her husband, but first stop by Hera's temple to confide in her mother that she no longer loves her husband. On her way out of the temple, Riddy runs into Cassandra, which surprises her so much that she stops in the middle of the street and is hit by a speeding truck.[1]
Trapped in the Underworld[]
Riddy is aboard a ship on the River Styx headed towards the Underworld, where she and the other deceased passengers watch an orientation video from Hades and Persephone. The ship docks at the Asphodel, where Riddy discovers that she's been buried without her coin, meaning she can't go through the Frame and be renewed. And so, she will remain in the Underworld, where she serves as a worker for 200 years, when she will finally get her chance to renew. Riddy attempts to force her way through the Frame, but without her coin, she simply stays above water, unable to pass through, as she water refuses to rise.[2]
Finding the Nothing[]
Riddy and Caeneus watch as Astyanax is forced into some kind of underground dungeon. They wait until the coast is clear before further investigation. They head down, where they discover the hollow shells of all the souls that passed through the Frame, even those whom they had sent through as recently as that morning.[3] Nax calls out for help, but instead of Riddy and Caeneus, he is found by Hades, who manually drains Nax of his soul, which causes Riddy great pain, forcing her and Caeneus to return to the surface.[4]
Unable to sleep after seeing what Hades did to Astyanax, Riddy stops by Caeneus' to discuss what they saw. Riddy and Caeneus discover that they share the same prophecy. Riddy recalls meeting Cassandra, who knew she was going to die on the day of her death. She believes her mom knew as well. Riddy now suspects that there is no Renewal and that everyone who goes through the Frame ends up in the Nothing.[5]
Returning to earth[]
Orpheus tries to apologize to Riddy for taking her coin and preventing her from Renewing, but he did so in the name of love, and now he's come to bring her back to life so they can start again, but Riddy doesn't wish to return with him. Before escorting Orpheus to see Hades, Medusa reveals to Riddy that they've been waiting for her. The rebels, like herself, see the gods for what they are, and they believe Riddy may be the key to stopping them, given her and Caeneus' shared prophecy.[6]
On their way back to earth, Riddy reveals that she loves Caeneus. Additionally, she tells Orpheus that the day she died, she went to see her mom to say goodbye because she was leaving him and Krete. That said, they both have a chance to start again on Earth, and so they continue on their journey. When they manage to return to earth, they part ways. Orpheus apologizes for keeping her coin, but she thanks him for getting her life back and hugs him goodbye. 70 miles out from Heraklion, Riddy crosses paths with Cassandra on the road. She reveals that she is a prophet, as is Riddy now. She instructs Riddy to find Ari and set the living free.[7]
