Zeus is a seemingly all-powerful, yet desperately insecure and vengeful God. He has long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods. That is, until he wakes up one morning and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Neurosis then sets in, setting him off on a dangerous, paranoid path. Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming – and starts to see signs of it everywhere.

Biography[]

Zeus' prophecy[]

The King of the Gods, Zeus lives on Mount Olympus with his sister/wife Hera and a court of ball boys. Zeus is becoming paranoid after the defilement of the monument in Krete. Looking in the mirror, he notices a wrinkle on his forehead. Zeus is afraid his prophecy may be coming true, which would mean the end of the gods' reign.[1]

Zeus confides in Prometheus how all the humans are no longer scared and how they no longer worship him. He fears that he's weakening and that the humans can sense it. He believes things need to go back to the old ways, when the humans were in constant fear of him. So he intends to take out half the world to demoralize them into submission. Zeus plans natural disasters as phase one. For phase two, he will tell the mortals stories to get them to hate each other, Trojan-War style. If woven correctly, a ten-year conflict will ensue. But then Prometheus reminds Zeus of his missing watch, which he got from Hercules. He said it was lucky, and so Zeus intends to find the watch before enacting his plan.[2]

Searching for his watch[]

Suspecting that one of his ball boys is responsible for his missing watch, Zeus begins killing them one by one. However, Dionysus returns to Mount Olympus with a replica watch to fool Zeus.[3]

Zeus enters Hera's bathroom, where she keeps the tongues and prayers of her worshipers, and he overhears Hera having sex with another man. In search of the truth, he takes one of her tacitas and tortures her for answers, but the tacita refuses to betray Hera and dies in the process. Zeus confronts Hera when she returns but she denies any wrongdoing.[4]

"Killing" the Fates[]

Zeus has turned his attention to the Fates, believing that killing them will stop the prophecy. They explain that for someone's prophecy to come to pass, they must bring it into being. If they decide it doesn't exist, then it doesn't exist. But Zeus insists that his does, to which they reply that only the possibility for it exists. Nevertheless, Zeus kills them by setting them on fire. As they go up in flames, Zeus notices Lacy wearing his watch and asks why she got it from. Lacy returns the watch and reveals that she got it from Dionysus.

Zeus returns home to confront his family. Zeus enters with four bottles of meander water. Hera and Poseidon both get full bottles, whilst Dionysus is only half full and Persephone receives none. Regarding Dionysus half full bottle of water, Zeus reveals that he knows his son gave Lachy his watch. Zeus then proceeds to set fire to Hera's bees, stating that she will no longer keep the mother of his children slaves. Having grown tired of his games, Poseidon confesses that he loves Hera. That said, Zeus pours out Poseidon's water and tells him to take a break from his position and only come back when he's calmed down. Zeus will now be taking charge of not only Krete, but the Underworld and everywhere else.

Zeus pays Prometheus a visit to discuss his recent actions, but just as Prometheus explains that he never betrayed Zeus, he disappears. Before long, Zeus tracks him down to the throne room. Zeus attempts to send him away but not only does he fail to do so, he notices a cut on his hand despite the fact that Gods don't bleed, meaning he is no longer a God.[5]

Powers and abilities[]

  • Near-immortality
  • Weather control
  • Power to cause natural disasters
  • Control over other gods (e.g. making Dionusus hit his head on a table)
  • Teleportation, including that of others

Personality[]

Zeus is self-absorbed and insecure to the point of being paranoid when he believes others are plotting against him. Vengeful towards anyone he feels has wronged him, he has no qualms punishing his friends (including Prometheus), his employees (including many of his ball boys) and innocent mortals alike. According to Prometheus, he has no taste.[6]

Relationships[]

Hera[]

Hera and Zeus are both siblings and a married couple.

Dionysus[]

Zeus' relationship with Dionysus boils down to Zeus not taking his son as seriously as Dionysus would like. This causes Dionysus to feel treated unfairly, as he believes himself to be ready for more responsibility that Zeus is willing to let him have. Dionysus tries to buy his father's affection by buying him a watch but it gets him nowhere.

Prometheus[]

Prometheus and Zeus' relationship is complicated. Prometheus is being punished by Zeus for a perceived betrayal and plotting to bring him down. Zeus considers Prometheus to be his one and only friend while Prometheus is secretly plotting to bring Zeus down.[6]
